And that is just an "excuse" for those who don't want to bother checking out
the facts or are not smart enough to keep up.

The "special knowledge" of the "extra oil" in fact is not the knowledge
itself but the INTEREST in the more specific things of scripture. In other
words, the foolish virgins might be saying, "ah, we only need to know the
basics, forget about the details", the wise virgins are replying, "I'm not
taking any chances. It's here. I'm going to aggressively try to understand
everything we need to get into this kingdom. This is everything to me!"
They are like the Bereans who just didn't accept everything Paul said, but
checked it out for themselves.

That added intense interest is what leads to discovering the finer things
when more information is available.

So, yes, the knowledge is "special" for the wise, but it's not exclusive.
YOU can be wise if you wish.

Not to put too fine a point on it, I might imagine that some of the foolish
virgins were calling the wise virgins "crackpots" for insisting upon their
added interest. But in the in, those with the "extra oil" are the ones that
got in.

And if it makes you feel any better, the foolish virgins EVENTUALLY got
their lamps burning. They eventually understood and caught up, but it was
too late. So this is not knowledge that is only understood by a small
segment, its an understanding of scripture accessed early or late that makes
all the difference.

I wonder how many people called the first-coming Messiah a crackpot? He
performed wonderful miracles and some said he did it by the power of the
Devil. So you can't win. The nonbelievers usually call the believers
crackpots. We'll have to wait for Judgment Day to finally see whose right.
In fact that is part of what Judgment Day is about. Setting the records
straight. Some are resurrected, the wicked, just to be judged only to be
killed again; the difference being they die the second time knowing the true
score. They understand the total price of their previous choices. That's
why it is called "the second death".
