anyone with a dictionary can look up "notitia" if not in point of fact,
simply figure it out for themselves, having used "notebook" at some
time in their lives.

>>you are arguing. Further, you admit you don't know it, because
>>you need it defined for you.
>
>I don't need it defined for me. I know what it is.

No, you do not. You make this crystal clear when you repeat the old slander that
it is a 'pagan' teaching. But everytime you say this, you display to the whole
NG that you have NO IDEA what you are talking about. For the pagans, whether
ancient or modern, could not and did not understand what it meant for Christ to
be _consubstantial_ to the Father. Apparently neither can you.

> I wanted to see if
>you knew. You whole point is impotent.

The _point_ is _impotent_? This malaproprism shows that you do not know what you
are doing.

>>2. You are also aware the thinness of the ice upon which you
>>are skating, since you feel the need to artificially restrict
>>Steve's reply to 25 words or less. If you're not afraid of
>>the truth, then why not allow Steve the freedom to defend

>misrepresenting what I said.

It is rare these days for me to defend Loren, but here I will do so;) No, he
understood you well enough, even if he did skim the post (which is always a
possibility).

> I asked for Steve to provide a definition
>of the trinity in 25 words or less.

And that was a bad idea.

> Why should that be so hard?

Try defining (in 25 words or less) the L-series of modular forms on elliptic
curves to someone who has had only high-school mathematics, and then you will
see by analogy how silly this request was.

> As far
>as his explaining it he can pontificate at will. Please pay attention
>or remain silent.

And if you could learn to remain silent, instead of demanding ratiocination
concerning the holy mysteries, you just _might_ learn to understand what _can_
be understood concerning the Holy Trinity. But it _cannot_ be understood by
ratiocination, which is why your demand for 'definition' is so foolish.

>>3. You dodge Steve's point that what you posted was
>>patently false in two fatal ways: A. The doctrine
>>of the Trinity was not of pagan origins and B. The
>>doctrine was not a 3rd Century concoction.
>
>the doctrine of the trinity is pagan.

False.

>the trinity was unknown before
>the third century.

False again.

>Once he provides a definition of the "trinity" we
>will see why this is so.

If you cannot see why this is false without a definition, then no definition
will help you.

>Nothing he has posted has shown the trinity
>was known prior to Nicea. nada.

That too is blatantly false. Yes, he did show it was known prior to Nicea. Your
claims that the text of Ignatius was tampered with are without serious basis.

> The mere fact that certain ante-Nicene
>Christians spoke in language that *sounds* like the trinity to you- it
>was not a formal doctrine until the 3rd Century.

Now what do _you_ mean by 'formal doctrine'? If _you_ could give a reasonable
definition of this, a definition sensitive to the cultural context of the 3rd &
4th century Church, then you would see that you prove nothing by making this
claim. For it has _long_ been the case that a "formal doctrine" is formally
enunciated only after _centuries_ of discussion of the doctrine; and this
'discussion' makes it clear that yes, the believing Church always _did_ insist
on the doctine as vital to the faith, it was only the _expression_ of it that
was unclear.

> Once Steve and anybody
>gives a definition of the trinity we can proceed. Believe or not there
>are various opinions as to what the trinity is amongst so-called
>Christians. So tell what the trinity is in your mind.
>
>>The Gospel message is that God saves us. Probably every
>>heresy that there ever was or will be gainsays that simple
>>message.
>
>I wholdeheartedly agree.

Then why are you so stubbornly insisting on a heresy that _does_ gainsay this
simple message?

And yes, it does "gainsay that simple message". This is what was so brilliantly
proven by such great leaders of the Church as St. Basil the Great in "To
Amphilochius: on the Holy Spirit".
