Actions have true significance this side of death. Those who in this
life do not accept Christ's offer of salvation will have no "second
chance" in the next life. History has true significance.

Also, technically speaking, there is a distinction to be made between
hell and the Lake of Fire. Hell, Hades, Sheol, is the holding place of
evil angels and evil men a like. There is a strong argument that
saints prior to the Church Age are there as well but in a different
section. The story of Lazarus and the rich man illustrate this. This
section of hell is often refered to as Paradise. However, for the
Church Age saint, he is "in Christ" and at the time of death, he goes
to be where He is. Christ's visitation to hell as mentioned by Peter
was not to inform the evil men and angels but the OT saints that their
faith had been verified.

It is interesting to note in the Lazarus story that the rich man did
not protest his assignment to "hell" or the section of hell where the
non-elect go. This stands square with what Paul teaches that "every
mouth will be stopped." Once on the otherside, one recognizes there is
no defense. The Great White Throne Judgement of Rev 20 does not
separate the "sheep from the goats." There is no deliberation. It is
merely where the passing of sentence occurs before all who are called
before that throne are cast into the Lake of Fire -forever. In that
same passage, the Beast and the False Prophet are spoken of still
existing and suffering torment in the LoF after the 1000 yr rule of
Christ on earth. There are no indicators that there is ever a stay of
this eternal execution. The terms and the tennor of all that Christ
said indicate that eternal punishment is exactly correspondent to the
the eternal reward of the saints. To deny the one is to deny the
other.


"Today is the day of salvation."
"And how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?"

Either humble yourself now in this life time or you will humbled
eternally in the next.
